General Position Summary

In support of PJM’s Vision and Mission, the (Sr.) Security Systems Analyst will work with the Manager, Identity & Access Management to directly operate, support and maintain PJM’s Identity and Access Management processes, systems and applications. The position will work with the manager and the IAM Team to develop, communicate and implement effective strategies that support short, mid- and long-term objectives that improve and enhance the continual operation and development of PJM’s Identity and Access Management program.

The (Sr.) Security Systems Analyst is responsible for providing application and business process support for the Access Manager platform which includes the Courion application, SailPoint application and Identity Sync systems.

The position requires expertise and in-depth knowledge of the department’s current business processes and access management application operations. This includes knowledge of upstream and downstream system interdepency that control and directly support compliance actions for CIP and SSAE16 access management requirements. This position requires an expert knowledge of Access Management application and system operations. The position has responsibility for responding to and correcting operational issues with Access Management systems. This position also directly supports system improvements and upgrades by serving as a security systems analyst on implementation teams.

The position requires an understanding and knowledge of CIP standards, SOC 1/SSAE16 requirements, and in-depth knowledge of interdepartmental system processes and related departmental system processes to ensure there are no gaps in current or future departmental requirements developed within the access management application in support of PJM's culture of compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to Manager, Identity & Access Management for work assignments and directly supports the manager in accomplishing both day-to-day operations and project level responsibilities as assigned
  • Supports PJM's Identity and Access Management Program business processes and technologies
  • Experience with identity and access management tools and processes
  • Experience with SQL relational databases
  • Responsible for supporting Identity and Access management compliance controls, has thorough understanding of NERC CIP standard requirements owned by the Identity and Access Management Department and all compliance work performed by the department, and is able to apply that knowledge to develop and support processes for these requirements.
  • Excellent standards for documenting operational procedures and training for use by internal (departmental) and external (PJM) clients
  • Analyzes and develops reports for regulatory agencies such as FERC, NERC and RFC, SOC1/SSAE16 as well as internal audit and review bodies
  • Participates in audits by outside agencies
  • Participates in the analysis and development of documentation, projects, and emerging technology to improve security and compliance at PJM
  • Is responsible for assisting department staff and manager on assigned projects, including integration of cross-functional teams to resolve complex problems
  • Participates to revise PJM Identity & Access Management policies and procedures and other internal or external governing documents as required
  • Applies knowledge, skills and abilities to implement a process or procedure, timely and professionally.
  • Builds and develops strong relationships with ITS, Security and Human Resource personnel by providing superior customer support as demonstrated by clearly owning, resolving and communicating issues and problems; being responsive to needs, requirements, and deadlines; and generally promoting goodwill in a professional and trust-building manner.
  • Assists department with corporate, division and department goal reporting
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Characteristics and Qualifications


  • AS, Business Administration, Information Systems or equivalent work experience
  • 0-5 years of experience in compliance or security related work
  • At least 5 years of experience in compliance or security related work
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Experience using verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)
  • Experience with identity management practices, focusing on access management and governance


  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
  • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees
