General Position Summary

Transmission Planning performs complex analysis to identify enhancements required to maintain reliability for the future of the power grid. In recent years major changes have led to a restructuring of the way that PJM Planning works with external entities to identify and build these transmission system enhancements. As a result of these changes PJM has implemented a competitive solicitation process by which entities submit proposals to address reliability criteria violations that have been identified by Transmission Planning. This competitive process has led to many new processes and tools that Transmission Planning uses to solicit, track, evaluate and present the proposals received. Transmission Planning is in need of a technical minded administrator with attention to detail and customer service skills to work alongside Transmission Planning engineers in administering these competitive windows.

The administrator’s primary responsibility is to assist with coordination of registration and communications between PJM and the external users. Additional responsibilities of this position are to provide editing support for controlled documents and special communication projects by ensuring material is clear, complete and credible, and that text is well written, grammatically correct and consistent. This position will be accountable to work on a range of documentation and communications, including: web pages, Power point presentations, RFP type documents and detailed technical data. Success in this position requires clear communication skills, attention to detail and customer service skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to competently perform all essential duties:
  • Manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects and activities as assigned. Use effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation to produce maximum results. It is important to have flexibility, ability to handle pressure well and capable of changing direction easily and on short notice.
  • Develop monthly metrics and analysis to track progress and status.
  • Attend critical corporate initiative meetings and reports on developments as requested.
  • Develop and / or edit communication materials including but not limited to user guides, presentations, talking points, FAQs, screen shots, handouts and desk drops.
  • Sub-edit text written by a number of authors to ensure consistent house style.
  • Work with IT-based publishing systems and databases, as well as the Internet.
  • Liaison regularly with internal customers and management by phone and email.
  • Check that document authors have thoroughly completed materials for publication.
  • Resolve queries directly with the author, e.g. style and text inconsistencies.
  • Maintain awareness of new words or phrases coming into popular usage with a view to ensuring they're appropriate for the readership.
  • Prepare email messages for external announcements.
  • Work with a diverse team to grant permission to accounts and email lists.
  • Organize data and files submitted electronically into shared drive folder structure.
  • Update database with detailed technical information based on completed templates submitted by external entities.
  • Work with internal web team to build new web pages based on specifications set forth by Engineers, including security clearance and permissions.
  • Respond to simple administration inquiries from external users, and route more complex questions to a large set of Subject Matter Experts based on content.
  • Coordinate financial transaction between external users and internal finance group.
  • Maintain data and statistics based on content in database, and establish new methods of reporting and visualizing data and statistics.

Characteristics and Qualifications


  • BS, Engineering or Equivalent work experience
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Experience using verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)


  • MBA, Business Administration
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
  • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees
