General Position Summary

The Real Time Data Management (RTDM) Department coordinates power system model telemetry and user-interface display maintenance for the real-time EMS (Energy Management System) and related systems. This includes use and maintenance of the power system modeling tools, EMS database modifications, ICCP data link support, Industrial Metering SCADA system database support, and maintenance of the transmission ratings database. The department also coordinates EMS system general maintenance including software updates and coordinates the work of other departments and outside contract personnel who support the EMS. The position will focus primarily on the maintenance of power system model telemetry and user interface display maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Telemetry Support - Work with PJM member companies to add telemetry for new equipment, delete telemetry for retired equipment, and update telemetry placement and/or ICCP Object IDs.
  • Provide PJM members permission to telemetry for new equipment, remove permission to telemetry for retired equipment, and update telemetry placement and/or ICCP Object IDs.
  • Work with the PJM members to test all data points using the stage system to verify that data is comparable to what PJM is currently receiving in production.
  • Remove data from old ICCP links and add data to new ICCP links.
  • Perform validation checks to ensure all telemetry is set up correctly.
  • Display Support - Perform one-line display creation and editing in response to both internal and external email requests.
  • Perform bulk display editing in support of quarterly model updates in coordination with various other departments.
  • Perform specialty display creation as required by PJM Dispatch.
  • Other - Participate in maintaining the accuracy of thermal ratings for transmission lines
  • Provide leadership or support on other projects and initiatives as required

Characteristics and Qualifications


  • Bachelor, Engineering, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support


  • MS, Engineering
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)
