In harmony with the PJM vision and mission, the (Sr.)Trainer/Specialist supports the overall goals of the State & Member Training Department. The initial focus for this position will be the PJM Markets curricula.
PJM training uses a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to collaboratively analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate training content associated with PJM’s state and member curriculum. The trainer also works closely with internal SME’s across the organization on training efforts related to new initiatives or changes to PJM market and operational rules or processes affecting member participation. Responsibilities include ensuring any changes are rolled into the regular curriculum as updates.
Topics developed cover the full scope of PJM activity and are delivered and targeted to a diverse set of audiences, including various member stakeholders, state and federal regulatory staff and others. However special attention is given to the markets and reliability operational practitioners at member companies. The trainer supports the department’s efforts in administering the PJM certification, initial training, and continuing training requirements that members working in these positions need for compliance.
Much of the curriculum must be developed and delivered in compliance with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accreditation standard, the NERC PER 005 standard, and the NERC Continuing Education program. Trainer may be required to earn and maintain certain industry certifications. Participation, facilitation, and leading member or industry committees, working groups, task forces, or special projects may also be required.
Training events take many forms, including large and small classroom, drills, workshops, and a large multi-week annual seminar. Extensive use of both synchronous and asynchronous online training is also produced and delivered. Delivery methods utilized at training events include lecture, well developed exercises/examples, hands-on demonstrations, and use of market and operations simulations. Custom programs may also be developed to meet the needs of specific audiences.
While much of the training will be delivered locally, some will be delivered across the current PJM footprint to meet the needs of shift personnel and multi-regional stakeholders. This position will report to the Manager of State & Member Training.
