  • General Position Summary

    As a (Sr.) IT Systems Engineer / IT Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for leading and participating in the architecture, design, and development of the Linux and Unix infrastructure within PJM's enterprise. You will be working closely with the development and quality assurance teams to develop and improve the continuous delivery process. You will be part of a team managing and supporting over 1000 Linux/Unix systems in a 24x7 operation, so advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix is essential including knowledge of Enterprise configuration management. You will be interfacing with a team that manages Enterprise Storage systems, so advanced knowledge of SAN and Storage systems is highly valued. This is a technologically diverse position and will require the candidate to adapt quickly, learn and apply skills in everything from application and server administration to DevOps scripting and process automation.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership, design, implementation, management and support for the Linux/Unix infrastructure
    • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux/Unix infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service
    • Ensure the security and compliance posture of all Linux/Unix systems to maintain a reliable and secure infrastructure
    • Perform deployments, administration, performance tuning and monitoring
    • This position does require the candidate to be in an On-Call rotation.
    • Drive innovation within infrastructure services leveraging automation
    • Support business aligned teams with service design and implementation with expertise in operating systems best practices
    • Maintain and work with Enterprise SAN/Storage infrastructure technology to ensure a 24x7x365 uptime service

    Characteristics and Qualifications


    • BS, Computer Science or equivalent work experience
    • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
    • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
    • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
    • Experience using verbal and written communications skills
    • Ability to use System Administration skills for AIX platforms This includes operating system installation, configuration, and maintenance
    • Experience with virtualization within Windows, Linux, or AIX
    • Experience with Security related issues as they apply to the AIX/Linux/Unix environment
    • Experience with Linux/Unix performance tuning


    • MBA, Business Administration
    • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
    • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees
